PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Thomas van der Mars scored 19 points, 17 in the second half, and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead Portland to a 92-76 win over Portland State Saturday night.
The 6-foot-11 center from Gouda, the Netherlands, was 6 of 8 from the field and 7 of 9 from the line to help power the Pilots (6-3) to the finish. He grabbed nine offensive and nine defensive rebounds, helping Portland to a 40-33 edge on the boards.
Kevin Bailey tossed in 23 points to lead the Portland offense. David Carr converted five of six shots from the free throw line in the final nine seconds to put the finishing touches on the win and finished with nine points.
Tim Douglas led all scorers with 27 points for Portland State (4-3). Gary Winston added 13 points off the bench and Aaron Moore contributed 12 points and a team-high seven boards.
