Orioles sign OF Peguero to 1-year contract

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have signed free agent outfielder Francisco Peguero to one-year contract.

The 25-year-old Peguero played most of the 2013 season with the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A farm team in Fresno, hitting .316 in 70 games. He also went 6 for 29 in 18 games with the Giants.

In eight minor league seasons with San Francisco, Peguero batted .306 in 690 games. He broke into the majors in 2012 and has a .200 career batting average in 46 plate appearances.

Peguero was signed by the Giants as an international free agent in 2005.

Baltimore now has 38 players on its 40-man roster.
