Letter: Engage Iran to establish relations

The Columbian
Published: December 2, 2013, 4:00pm

Recent attempts by the U.S. to improve relations with Iran should be encouraged. Iran is a natural ally, with how its culture has much in common with traditional American values (no abortion, no gay lifestyle, no porn). It stands for principles in its foreign policy, is opposed to Marxism, al-Qaida, Saddam Hussein and the excesses of Israel.

Israeli leaders claim that Iran is like a Nazi nation, but they are completely turning the truth around and fail to realize their own faults. Iran was the victim during Hussein’s Iraqi invasion and occupation, which was similar in principle to the aggressive invasions launched by Nazis. Iran is the opposite of a Nazi nation.

Israel is in a difficult situation in regards to combatting terrorism. But Israel has gone overboard at times, as it did when it invaded Lebanon several years ago. Israel carried out massive destruction and death for no valid reason. Israel needs to make friends in the region rather than using aggressive force to solve problems. By improving relations with Iran, not only would the U.S. be promoting traditional values in the world, but would also help Israel to follow a path of peace.
