Shine leads High Point rally past Winthrop 52-47

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Shay Shine tied his season high with 23 points and High Point scored the final 13 points of the game to overtake Winthrop for a 52-47 Big South Conference win Saturday.

Trailing 47-39 with 4:56 left, the Panthers (8-14, 4-8) shut down the Eagles.

Nick Barbour’s 3-pointer tied it at 47 with 2:08 left, then High Point hit 5 of 7 free throws.

The Eagles (9-14, 6-6) missed seven shots in the last 1:42, shooting only 21.2 percent (7 of 33) after halftime compared to 47.6 percent (10 of 21) for the Panthers.

Barbour finished with 14 points, hitting 4 of 5 from long range,

Down 34-22 with 18:32 remaining, High Point went on a 9-0 run, capped by Barbour’s 3-pointer. Winthrop stretched the lead to eight on three more occasions before going cold.

Reggie Middleton scored 15 and Matt Morgan had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles.
