SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane County sheriff’s office says investigators have arrested two people who attempted to help two women who escaped briefly from the Geiger Corrections Center.

The inmates broke through a window Monday night and climbed over a security fence. They used a blanket to cover razor wire but still suffered numerous cuts. One also suffered a broken ankle.

They were arrested within the hour after one asked for a ride at a business. She had bloody hands and was wearing one shoe and she said she had “jumped the fence” at the corrections center.

Deputies believe two others had been waiting with clothes to give them a ride.

The women were booked into the Spokane County Jail for investigation of escape. Their friends were jailed for investigation of criminal assistance.
