SEATTLE (AP) — Heavy snow and avalanche control work Tuesday night closed Snoqualmie and Stevens passes — the two main east-west highway routes through the Washington Cascades.
The Transportation Department reopened Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass by 6 a.m. Wednesday, but Highway 2 at Stevens Pass remains closed until officials can assess the danger in daylight.
The National Weather Service forecasts another 11 to 17 inches of snow by Thursday morning in the passes.
