Sacred Heart rallies to beat CCSU 62-61

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Shane Gibson scored 26 points and hit the game-winning basket with 6 seconds remaining to lift Sacred Heart to a 62-61 win over Central Connecticut State on Saturday.

Gibson has scored at least 20 points in nine of the past 10 games for the Pioneers.

The game was tight from start to finish as neither team led by more than five points. There were 13 ties and 13 lead changes.

Sacred Heart trailed 61-58 with 2:16 to play and cut the deficit to one point after two free throws by Evan Kelley with 1:01 remaining. A steal by the Pioneers’ Stan Dulaire with 21 seconds to go set up the winning basket.

Louis Montes had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Pioneers (10-11, 4-4 Northeast Conference).

Ken Horton had 25 points and 14 rebounds, and Kyle Vinales added 20 points for the Blue Devils (9-9, 6-2).
