Seattle Aquarium welcomes baby otter

SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Aquarium is welcoming a new otter pup.

The aquarium says the yet-to-be-named pup was born early Saturday morning. The mother and pup are being watched around the clock to monitor the little one’s health. A team will conduct monitoring for at least four weeks.

Because pups stay close to their mother after birth, aquarium staff has been unable to determine the pup’s sex.

The pup’s mother, Aniak, was born at the aquarium in 2002.

As a precaution, Adaa, the otter’s father, has been temporarily moved to the Oregon Zoo in Portland to allow Aniak and her pup to bond. He will return to the Seattle Aquarium in the near future.
