MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — The city of Medford says it is close to a compromise with a group of irate residents who say a new police communications tower could damage home prices in the area.
The Medford Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/zEVPx3 ) the residents want the tower shortened by 30 feet or moved.
The city erected the tower in December 2010, but it never became operational because of an appeal to the Land Use Board of Appeals.
The city’s police department estimates cost of relocating the tower would be $180,000.
Police in Medford say the tower is a necessary replacement for the existing tower.
The city is accepting bids from contractors who would move or shorten the tower.
