LYNNWOOD, Wash. (AP) — Police say the ashes of a deceased son have been returned to a Lynnwood, Wash.-area homeowner after they were found in a box at a hotel. The box holding the ashes had been stolen in a recent burglary.

Police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said Wednesday the box also included a photo of a preschool-aged boy with a name and year written on the back. A guest at the hotel found the box last weekend, sitting between two vending machines.

The homeowner called police after seeing a photo of the box on recent TV newscasts. Sessions says he was able to prove the box was his. He has declined to speak publicly.
