BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Quinton Doggett scored 20 points to lead Southern University to a 72-59 victory over Grambling State Saturday night in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
For the Jaguars (6-10, 2-1), Michael Celestin scored 17 points, Derick Beltran 11 and Jameel Grace 10.
Quincy Roberts was a veritable one-man show for Grambling (1-12, 1-2). The guard led all scorers with 29 points. Roberts was 9 for 16 from the floor and hit 10 of 12 free throws. But no other Tiger was in double figures. Bryant Purvis just missed a double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tigers only shot 37.7 percent from the field, making 20 of 53 shots. They were far worse from 3-point range, 2 of 13 for 15.4 percent.
Southern shot 49.1 percent (27 of 55) from the floor and 7 of 16 beyond the arc. Celestin was 5 of 8 on 3-pointers.
