Long Beach State edges Cal Poly 55-50

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Casper Ware scored 17 points and T.J. Robinson had the 45th double-double of his career to help Long Beach State defeat Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo 55-50 on Thursday night.

Robinson had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the 49ers (9-6, 2-0 Big West), whose final margin represented their biggest lead.

Will Taylor scored 16 points and David Hanson 11 for the Mustangs (9-6, 0-2).

Long Beach State, which has a 15-game home winning streak, has won five of its last six.

Mike Caffey’s 3-pointer with 7:03 to go gave Long Beach State a 44-43 lead. But Taylor trimmed the deficit to 50-48 with 1:16 remaining. After Caffey sank a free throw, Hanson’s layup cut it to 51-50 with 28 seconds left.

Ware sank two free throws to make it 53-50, and after Taylor missed a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left, Robinson hit two more foul shots to close it out.
