Odister nets 14, Cal Poly beats UC Riverside 58-48

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Kyle Odister scored 14 points and hit four 3-pointers for Cal Poly, which opened Big West play with a 58-48 victory over UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon.

Cal Poly (5-6, 1-0 Big West) shot only 34.6 percent from the field and trailed 29-23 at halftime to UC Riverside, which dominated the paint, outscoring the Mustangs 30-8 inside. Cal Poly was able to erase an 11-point deficit in the second half to prevail.

Reese Morgan scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Cal Poly, which out-rebounded the Highlanders 38-30, forced 12 turnovers and were 15 of 22 from the free-throw line, 13 of which were made in the second half.

Chris Harriel scored 14 points to lead UC Riverside (3-10, 0-1), while Chris Patton had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
