IUPUI gets hot in 2nd half, defeats IPFW 88-74

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — John Hart scored 26 points and IUPUI scored 21 of the game’s last 23 points to beat IPFW 88-74 Thursday night.

The Jaguars (6-10, 1-2 Summit League), who shot 72 percent from the field in the second half, had four other players score in double figures. Greg Rice had 16 points, Lyonell Gaines and Donovan Gibbs scored 12 apiece and Mitchell Patton had 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench.

IUPUI shot 59 percent from the field overall. It was 39-39 at halftime and the Jaguars trailed 72-67 with 6 minutes remaining then outscored the Mastodons 21-2 the rest of the way. Gaines had eight points in that run.

Frank Gaines had 28 points for IPFW (6-8, 0-1), but he was the only Mastodon to score in double digits. Fort Wayne shot 49 percent from the field.

The final score was the Jaguars’ largest lead of the game.
