CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Richie Gordon and Mike Williams scored 12 points each and Western Carolina’s defense held off Furman in a 65-41 win on Thursday night.
The Catamounts (9-12, 5-5 Southern Conference) held Furman to 26.3 percent shooting (15 of 56), including 2 of 21 from 3-point range (9.5 percent).
Western Carolina, which had 10 players score, led 34-16 at halftime, after holding the Paladins (15-6, 7-3) to just 6-of-24 shooting (25 percent) in the first half.
The Catamounts opened the second half on a 12-6 run to lead 46-22 on Gordon’s dunk with 15:23 left in the game. Western Carolina stretched its lead to as many as 32, 59-27, on Gordon’s free throws with 7:30 remaining.
