CHAMONIX, France (AP) — Austrian skier Mario Scheiber has been taken to the hospital after crashing during a World Cup downhill training run.

Scheiber lost control Thursday after a right turn and flew into the safety net. Organizers say he was airlifted to the nearby Sallanches hospital.

The 27-year-old Scheiber’s condition was not immediately known, but Austrian team doctor Martin Gruber said the skier was able to recognize him.

The crash comes a week after Austrian teammate Hans Grugger was seriously injured during a training run on the Streif course in Kitzbuehel, Austria.
