McNeese State outlasts Nicholls State 66-65

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Dontae Cannon nailed a jumper with 3 seconds on the clock to lift McNeese State past Nicholls State 66-65 on Wednesday night.

The Cowboys (12-7, 4-2 Southland Conference) trailed 65-64 after a jumpshot by Anatoly Bose 15 seconds earlier. Cannon drove from halfcourt, stopped at the free-throw line and knocked down the game-winner over two Nicholls State defenders.

P.J. Alawoya led McNeese State with 17 points and 13 rebounds, earning his eighth double-double of the season. Patrick Richard added 15 points and Stephan Martin 11.

The Cowboys shot 51.7 percent in the opening half (15 of 29) to take a 36-34 halftime lead. The teams were tied on 11 occasions and exchanged the lead 18 times.

Bose finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Colonels (9-8, 3-3), who were 22 of 49 from the floor (44.9 percent), including 12 of 25 from beyond the arc (48 percent).
