Coll of Charleston beats Appalachian State 73-64

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Jeremy Simmons scored 18 points to lead a balanced attack and College of Charleston defeated Appalachian State 73-64 on Saturday.

Simmons, who needed 16 coming in, reached the 1,000 career point mark, joining teammates Andrew Goudelock and Donavan Monroe to give the Cougars three 1,000-point scorers on the same team for the first time in program history.

Simmons’ three-point play put the Cougars (14-6, 7-1 Southern Conference) ahead 5-0 early as they led the entire way. Charleston pushed its lead to as many as 13 in the first half, 42-29, on Simmons’ three-point play with 1:02 to go until halftime.

Goudelock, the nation’s No. 4 scorer (23.8 points per game) had 15, Antwaine Wiggins 14 and Monroe 10 for the Cougars.

Donald Sims, 12th in the nation in scoring (21.4 points per game), led the Mountaineers with 21 points.
