NEW YORK (AP) — Right-hander Mike Pelfrey and the New York Mets have agreed to a one-year contract worth $3,925,000, a deal that avoided salary arbitration.
Pelfrey made $500,000 last year, when he was one of the team’s few bright spots by going 15-9 with a 3.66 ERA in 33 starts and one relief appearance. The Mets finished fourth in the NL East at 79-83.
As part of Tuesday’s deal, Pelfrey can earn $50,000 in performance bonuses: $12,500 each for 200 and 205 innings, and $25,000 for 210. He pitched a career-high 204 innings last season.
