Creighton holds on to defeat Evansville 74-69

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Gregory Echenique scored 16 points and Kaleb Korver added a career-high 15 as Creighton defeated Evansville 74-69 Sunday.

Doug McDermott also scored 15 points and Kenny Lawson Jr., had 13 for the Bluejays (12-5, 4-1 Missouri Valley).

Colt Ryan led the Purple Aces (7-8, 1-4) with 16 points, Denver Holmes had 12 and Kenny Harris finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Creighton led 64-54 with 6:46 to play when Evansville started to rally. The Aces scored nine of the next 11 points and later pulled to within 70-69 after two free throws by Harris with 33 seconds remaining.

But the Bluejays didn’t allow another point and sealed the win with four free throws.

Evansville ended the first half with a 7-0 run for a 34-32 lead.
