BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Omar Carter scored 25 points and Appalachian State pulled away from Georgia Southern 79-51 on Saturday for its third straight win.
The Mountaineers closed out the scoring with a 23-2 run over a six-minute span. Jeremi Booth’s 3-pointer, the final points of the game, capped the run with 2:14 to play.
Donald Sims added 19 points and Booth had 17 for the Mountaineers (7-7, 3-1 Southern Conference), who have won five in a row in the series and are 9-2 against the Eagles in the past 11 meetings.
The Mountaineers scored 23 points off 18 Georgia Southern turnovers and outrebounded the Eagles 43-29. The Eagles shot 54.2 percent (13 of 24) from the field in the first half but made only 7 of 27 (25.9 percent) in the second half.
Ben Drayton scored 16 points and Rory Spencer chipped in 15 for the Eagles (4-13, 0-3), who have lost four straight games and six of their past seven.
