CHEMULT, Ore. (AP) — A California woman was killed when she apparently lost control of her car on U.S. 97 and was struck by another vehicle near Chemult in central Oregon.
Oregon State Police said 65-year old Hadley Ann Alger of Chico, Calif., died just before noon Sunday when she lost control of her car on packed snow and ice on the highway, crossing into the oncoming lane.
Troopers said her car was struck by a small pickup driven by 24-year-old Collin Runnels of Klamath Falls, who tried to avoid a collision.
Runnels suffered nonlife-threatening injuries but his passenger, 24-year-old Brittainy Anne Pendleton of Klamath Falls, was seriously injured and taken to a Portland hospital.
Troopers said Alger was returning home from vacation visiting a relative in the Bend area.
