Ridgefield — South Ridge Elementary School students collected more than 1,800 pounds of food for Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a local food bank, during a food drive sponsored by the PTA. A family movie night kicked off the drive on Nov. 4. About 250 family members and friends attended the event hosted by participants in a new PTA program, Kids Helping Kids. The program allows past and present South Ridge students to help at PTA-sponsored events. The food drive ended Nov. 10. Food bank workers said they were very grateful for the donation because the food pantry was running very low on donations this year.
