HONOLULU (AP) — Survivors of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 are gathering in Hawaii to remember the event that brought the U.S. into World War II 70 years ago.
They will be among 3,000 people attending a ceremony the Navy and the National Park Service host each year at a site overlooking where the USS Arizona sank in the bombing.
Some survivors will be joined by a handful of college students eager to hear their stories.
The College of the Ozarks in Missouri is sending a group of students and veterans to Pearl Harbor to attend the ceremony together.
The program aims to pass have veterans pass on their stories — something that’s becoming increasingly urgent as the youngest Pearl Harbor survivors are in their late 80s.
