KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl was ejected from the Volunteers’ game against College of Charleston on Friday with just one more game to go before serving an eight-game suspension during Southeastern Conference play.
Pearl was given a technical foul with 5:25 to go and Tennessee trailing 76-63 when Josh Bone was called for fouling Donavan Monroe. Pearl didn’t stop yelling from the sideline while Andrew Goudelock hit two free throws, and was called for a second technical, which meant he was ejected.
SEC commissioner Mike Slive suspended Pearl for lying to NCAA investigators during an ongoing probe into recruiting practices by the Tennessee coaching staff.
Pearl will coach the Vols against Memphis on Jan. 5 and will serve his suspension for games played between Jan. 8 through Feb. 8. He will be allowed to coach the nonconference meeting with No. 4 Connecticut on Jan. 22.
