SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Panthers put center Steve Reinprecht on waivers Friday.
Panthers general manager Dale Tallon says the move is a “performance issue” as young players have surpassed Reinprecht’s play.
The 34-year-old is in the middle of a three-year deal that pays him about $2.2 million annually.
Because of the New Year’s holiday, teams have until Monday to claim Reinprecht.
Tallon says he’s in trade discussions with other teams and that the team hasn’t decided what to do if Reinprecht’s not claimed.
Reinprecht had four goals and six assists in 29 games this season. The 11-year NHL veteran was acquired from Phoenix in June 2009.
The Panthers made the announcement before playing the Montreal Canadiens.
