Snyder appoints press secretary with Michigan ties

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan native who most recently worked in Oregon has been named press secretary for Michigan Republican Gov.-elect Rick Snyder.

Sara Wurfel is expected to take over as press secretary after Snyder takes office. Snyder is scheduled to be sworn in as the state’s next governor Saturday.

Wurfel currently is director of communications for AARP Oregon. She previously was communications director for the Michigan Department of Agriculture under Govs. John Engler and Jennifer Granholm.

Wurfel will work with Geralyn Lasher, who will be Snyder’s communications director.

Wurfel’s husband Brad Wurfel also will return to Michigan and be communications director for the Department of Environmental Quality.
