KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — Police in Kennewick are investigating the body of a woman found in an irrigation canal.

Sgt. Ken Lattin of the Kennewick Police Department told The Tri-City Herald that two men walking down the street spotted the body just before noon on Monday. The body was found in about a foot of water and five inches of mud from recent rain and melting snow.

Lattin says the woman appears to be in her mid-40s. An autopsy is scheduled.

Dive rescue officials were called to recover the body and police are talking with neighbors in the area.
