SHORELINE, Wash. (AP) — An elderly man was injured in a house fire Friday morning in Shoreline.

Fire officials say the man used oxygen tanks and apparently started the fire by smoking in bed. His adult son, who was visiting for the holidays, heard the smoke alarm and found his father on fire.

The son was able to drag him into the back yard. Firefighters took the victim to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in serious condition.

Gregory Hewitt of the Shoreline Fire Department says there’s extensive damage to the home as the oxygen tanks exploded and spread the flames.
