Wright leads Dayton past Western Carolina 71-60

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Chris Wright scored 30 points to lead Dayton over Western Carolina 71-60 on Saturday night.

Wright, the Flyers’ leading scorer with 12.3 per game, was 10 of 13 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line against the Catamounts (4-9).

Dayton (8-3), which outrebounds its opponents by a plus-6.1 margin, won the battle of the boards 41-30 against Western Carolina. The Flyers scored 34 points in the paint and 21 off of 14 turnovers.

After a 27-27 tie at halftime, Dayton shot 62.5 percent in the second half (15 of 24) while holding the Catamounts to 12-of-35 shooting (34.3 percent). The Flyers outscored Western Carolina 44-33 after halftime.

Chris Johnson finished with 15 points for Dayton.

Trey Sumler paced the Catamounts with 15 points. Mike Williams and Richie Gordon added 12 points each for Western Carolina, which lost its fifth straight.
