CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Passions were heated — and that wasn’t all — in the wake of last Saturday’s 37-20 Oregon victory over Oregon State in the schools’ annual football “Civil War,” played this year in Corvallis.
Now Oregon State Police want to talk with the fan whose victory celebration in the center of the Reser Stadium field may have charred the Oregon State Beavers’ logo, causing an estimated $1,500 damage to the turf. An Oregon State athletics spokesman says if the entire logo has to be replaced, that cost could rise to more than $5,000.
An unidentified young man wearing an Oregon football jersey was seen waving a burning object that looked like a T-shirt. Shortly after that, the charred spot was discovered on the center-field depiction of the Beavers’ logo.
Senior Trooper Orly Johnson said Tuesday that state police in Corvallis want to know who that fan was.
