NEW YORK (AP) — Four of college basketball’s elite programs will take part in the Champions Classic, a new early-season tournament that will open next year at Madison Square Garden.

Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky and Kansas will take turns playing each other at different sites over the next three years.

In the first Champions Classic, Duke will face Michigan State and Kentucky will play Kansas on Nov. 15, 2011, in New York.

The tournament shifts to Atlanta’s Georgia Dome in 2012, when the Spartans face the Jayhawks and the Blue Devils go against the Wildcats. Michigan State plays Kentucky and Kansas gets Duke at Chicago’s United Center in 2013.

The schools have combined for 15 national titles, led by Kentucky’s seven.
