KELSO, Wash. (AP) — The union for Kelso police officers voted down a proposal to take a 5 percent pay cut next year to save the jobs of three officers and a police clerk.

The Daily News of Longview reports the proposal failed Tuesday by one vote.

The Kelso Police Association represents the city’s 28 officers and sergeants.

The city council refused Tuesday night to dip into reserve funds, so the four police jobs will be cut at the end of the month.
