SEATTLE (AP) — The snowstorm that clobbered Washington state last week was terrible for commuters but great for ski shops.
The Seattle Times reports that several Seattle-area stores report strong sales of snow sport gear compared with last year’s Thanksgiving week. People in the industry say that despite the bad economy, those who have been able to keep their jobs may now think it’s time to give themselves a treat.
Tracy Gibbons, co-owner of Bellevue ski shop Sturtevant’s, tells the newspaper that she’s hoping for the best holiday season for sales in three years.
