SUN CITY, South Africa (AP) — Lee Westwood has opened a three-stroke lead after shooting a 64 in the second round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

The top-ranked player did not drop a shot at the Gary Player Country Club on Friday, making eight birdies to go 12 under, three ahead of fellow Englishman Ross Fisher.

Edoardo Molinari, Miguel Angel Jimenez and overnight leader Padraig Harrington are six off the lead in a tie for third.

Westwood was one stroke off the course record 63, shared by Ernie Els, Henrik Stenson and Nick Watney. He’s in prime position for a second tournament win of 2010 and a $1.25 million payday.

Harrington failed to build on Thursday’s one-shot lead, recording a birdie and bogey in his round of even-par 72.
