Jackie Shepherd, 19, sets up a kabuto decoration, a traditional samurai suit of armor displayed annually in many Japanese homes to celebrate Children’s Day, at her home in Vancouver. As a child, Shepherd would help set up the kabuto with her family. It has become a special tradition that reminds her of her Japanese heritage. The former Clark College student received a scholarship to study in Japan for the next five years.
