A 1-year-old lion is shown with its paw caught in a poacher's trap in Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. Some lions in the park have survived such injuries and went on to mate and hunt, though female lions with such injuries are unable to raise cubs successfully. The park's management is trying to rebuild the lion population in Gorongosa, where much of the wildlife was almost wiped out during the Mozambican civil war that ended in 1992.
