Glen Jones, food and warehouse manager, unloads donated food from Costco from the delivery truck Thursday afternoon at the Clark County Food Bank. The recovery program, known as Fresh Alliance, is a nationally recognized food bank program that gathers food grocery stores no longer want and distributes it to local food banks. Two local Costcos recently began participating in the program.

The second annual ¡Viva Vancouver!, a two-day festival in Vancouver’s Esther Short Park, celebrates Latin culture through food, music and crafts. Mario Forzan, of Mario’s Salsas, shows off his salsas and tamales at his booth. Forzan wanted to sell his products, but he added that attending the event was important to showcase his culture. “We’re here and part of the community,” he said.

Salary standoff sizzles in Clark County schools

Evergreen Education Association union members and supporters make signs protesting Evergreen Public School District’s stance on raises during an Evergreen Public School Board meeting on Tuesday evening.

In the heat and haze Tuesday, hundreds of Evergreen Public Schools teachers protested outside district administrative offices and stormed the school board meeting. It was the same story across town at the Vancouver Public Schools’ board meeting, where an estimated 400 teachers demonstrated in favor of increased wages. Read story
