In observance of Fire Prevention Week, Fire District 3 will launch a fire safety video contest for kids ages 5 to 19 on Oct. 7.

The video must be no longer than 90 seconds and focus on either smoke detectors, home evacuation plans, carbon monoxide detectors or the top national causes of house fires: cooking, candles, heating and electrical.

The videos should be uploaded to social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or Twitter. Participants must tag Fire District 3 and use the hashtag #FD3firesafety in the description. (Fire District 3 can be found on Instagram as @firedistrict3, on TikTokas @ccfd3, on Twitter as @Firedistrict3 and on YouTube as FD3MoreThanFire.)

People without social media accounts can upload videos via WeTransfer.com and send them to zanenorris@fire3.org.

The winners of the contest will be divided into three categories. The winner of the kindergarten through fourth-grade category will receive $50, the fifth- through eighth-grade category $100 and the ninth- through 12-grade category $150.

The video submissions must be safe and should not include actual fire or smoke, according to the press release.

The contest deadline is Nov. 29. Winners will be notified within two weeks of the deadline. People with questions can call the Fire District 3 front office at 360-892-2331.
