Letter: Support Keethler in 17th District

During the recent presidential debate, Republican candidate Donald Trump again proposed a 10 percent tariff on all imports into the U.S., and said he wants a 60 percent tariff on China. The 10 percent plan would result in estimated additional costs per U.S. household between $1,700 and $2,300 annually, and the China tariff would increase household costs by $1,950.

Ask yourself: “Do working people need to pay more for everyday goods that Trump’s tariffs would bring?” It amounts to an extra sales tax for the middle class.

Who does care about finding solutions in our region is Marla Keethler, Democratic candidate for state Senate, District 17.

As mayor of White Salmon, she has a commitment to working with diverse groups of people to address shared problems, such as affordable housing and child care, money for a Hood River-White Salmon bridge replacement, supporting health care for families and reproductive freedom.

Here is a person who has and will work for working people. Let’s put Marla in the Senate.
