Letter: Smart development is needed

We need more affordable housing in unincorporated Clark County.

I would welcome an apartment building next door for low-income individuals. Instead, the developer plans to build a “cottage development” of 10 two-story units on less than an acre of land, on a steep slope to the north and south. There is no road access to any but the top four units. When a sewer connection is established, sewer will be pumped from one end of the property to the other. The steep, narrow driveway will not accommodate fire trucks, emergency or delivery vehicles.

The developer has not paid the $35,000 fine he got last year. He is not paying taxes on the property. No permits of any kind have been issued. Today, they are felling 8-10 huge trees. After many county contacts I learned that because it is a residential lot there is no government oversight for the tree removal. A young child on the next property went out to see the 100-foot tree felled. The second tree came down nearly on top of him on his family’s property.
