I read letters to The Columbian from people who don’t see a difference between the presidential candidates and, honestly, I’m flummoxed.
Kamala Harris is part of an administration whose Democratic policies resulted in 16 million jobs, an unemployment rate under 4 percent for the longest time since 1969, and a stock market topping 42,000; in her role as president of the Senate, she has cast 33 tiebreaking votes, including passing the Inflation Reduction Act. Harris has a compelling public record and a spotless personal life.
Conversely, Donald Trump tried to stage a coup to stay in office; his lethal mismanagement of COVID resulted in hundreds of thousands of needless deaths, per Lancet; at least 18 women have accused him of rape or sexual assault and he was found liable for the latter in court. Trump has been charged with 85 felonies and convicted of 34 (this doesn’t include crimes he was accused of that didn’t result in charges). He viciously attacks women and minorities, mocks the disabled, incites violence, lies continuously and wants to jail his political opponents, calling us “vermin.” Trump is a cancer on our body politic.
In what world should this be a hard choice?
