Hockinson’s Lyla Taylor is the Week 1 Prep Athlete of the Week

Lyla Taylor of Hockinson cross country is The Columbian’s 2024 Week 1 Prep Athlete of the Week after she won the season-opening Steve Maas Run-a-Ree.

Taylor won the contest with 281 votes out of 830 cast on 360Preps.com.

Other Nominees were Taylor Lies (Skyview slowpitch softball), Hayley Gunderson (Heritage swimming), Gracie Jacoby (Prairie volleyball) and Jacob McManus (Columbia River cross country). Nominees are posted and voting begins each Tuesday and runs through Thursday during the 2024-25 season.

Nominees are selected by The Columbian staff after a review of the previous week’s results. Suggestions for nominees can by made by anyone, but must be received by 6 p.m. Monday for consideration via e-mail to sports@columbian.com.

Winners of the player-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.
