Letter: Maintain capital gains tax

For Washington workers, I’m voting “no” on Initiative 2109.

I-2109 on this year’s ballot would eliminate our state’s capital gains tax, a tax that affects only sales of stocks and bonds by the very wealthiest residents.

Cutting this tax would slash funding to child care. For many workers in jobs with unconventional hours like first responders, health care staff and construction workers, access to child care is necessary for staying employed. Cutting child care means cutting our workforce and putting a strain on businesses.

Initiative 2109 is bad for workers and bad for businesses. Vote no.
