Evergreen held North Thurston under 100 yards of total offense in a dominant defensive showing Friday at McKenzie Stadium.

Evergreen (2-1) took a 28-0 lead into halftime Friday courtesy of a James Bethune 2-yard touchdown run, touchdown passes thrown by quarterback Jayden Baum to receivers Thaddeus Pruitt and Darren Schmitt, plus a Josiah Alanis blocked punt returned by Jason Whedon for a touchdown.

Baum, a freshman, went 11-for-17 with 238 passing yards and four touchdowns, two of which went to Schmitt.

Baum’s top target was receiver Terrance Saryon, who led Evergreen with 101 receiving yards, including a 47-yard touchdown catch to give the Plainsmen a 35-0 lead in the third quarter.

The Plainsmen’s 49-0 win over the Rams was a bounce-back effort from last week’s loss to Puyallup, and was also their second shutout win over the season after defeating Union 18-0 two weeks ago.

Evergreen forced two turnovers on interceptions from Jaysaun Scott and Josiah Alanis. Evergreen’s Damian Perez, Mark Williams Jr., Makhi Miller and Elijah English were each credited with sacks.
