Letter: Emphasize our similarities

We do not need politicians, Democratic or Republican, who only support their brand and disparage those of us who don’t agree with them. Please show us candidates who actively support at least 75 percent of us. Many (if not most) of our candidates continue to alienate half of the voting public rather than trying to understand their needs and advocating for them.

Along with my father, uncles, wife, son and daughter, I am a combat veteran. That simple qualifier does not make any of us a candidate for public office. We need more from our representatives. We need someone who achieves consensus the old-fashioned way: By emphasizing our similarities, not our differences. Don’t tell us what you think, show us what you do. We don’t vote for ideas, we vote for actions.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
