I couldn’t be more thrilled to read retiring Vancouver Police Chief Jeff Mori’s support for our own Deputy Chief Troy Price as his successor (“Outgoing Vancouver police chief has a replacement in mind . . . ,” The Columbian, Sept. 5).
I came to town almost 30 years ago, the same year Troy did, and I prosecuted cases for him as a young police officer in the department. I was proud to fight in court for then-Officer Price’s criminal investigations. I have worked with 100s of law-enforcement officers in the past two-plus decades, and Troy Price stands out as one of the smartest go-getters, with a keen intellect and clear leadership skills from the start.
I don’t know how many capable chiefs have been brought into Vancouver from outside agencies over the years, but it has pained me to watch our city pass over high-quality “local” and equally capable candidates, who know how things work here at VPD and with a history of service. It is my hope that the powers that be recognize the local gem we have in Deputy Chief Troy Price, and that he is offered the chance to lead our local department.
