Letter: No need for double-decker buses

A recent article in The Columbian shared the news that as part of the Interstate 5 Bridge debacle, C-Tran may get eight “high efficiency” double-decker buses (“Double-decker buses might be added to C-Tran’s fleet,” The Columbian, Sept. 3).

Whee! Or rather, why? C-Tran currently runs seven conventional buses all day across the I-5 Bridge. The total ridership is reported at just over 500 people per day. So now with a new higher-capacity bridge (with light rail, sadly), they project such dramatic growth that this is necessary? Perhaps “high efficiency” could be better achieved with eight minivans. Madness!
