The Mount St. Helens Visitor Center in Castle Rock will close from Sept. 30 to May 15 to undergo an update to its exhibits, according to a news release from Washington State Parks.

The center’s parking lot, restrooms and plaza and the Wetland Haven Trail will remain open through the winter, however. The news release said the visitor center exhibit updates will “document the regrowth and transformation of the area in the last 44 years,” as many of the exhibits were constructed in 1986, just a few years after the mountain’s eruption. The project is expected to cost $1.19 million.

The agency also announced that Seaquest State Park, located west of the mountain, will be closed from Sept. 15 through mid-October to complete road-maintenance work. The park will then reopen through the winter for camping and day use.
