Prep highlights: Prairie volleyball hands River first loss since 2022

The Prairie volleyball team handed reigning three-time state champion Columbia River its first loss since the 2022 season in straight sets on Tuesday.

Prairie, which placed fifth in last year’s Class 3A state tournament, won the first set 25-22. The Falcons then won the second set 25-17 before clinching the match 25-18 in the third set.

Claire Neuman had a team-high 12 kills for Prairie. Gracie Jacoby added 10 kills and 11 digs while Avery Eterno had 14 digs.

Sydney Dreves led Columbia River with 13 kills and 20 digs. The Rapids had not lost since the 2022 District 4 championship match and have won the past three Class 2A state championships.

Stars of the day

  • Bridget Quinn, King’s Way Christian volleyball, had 11 kills and 11 digs in a three-set win over Mountain View.
  • Erin Bennett, Evergreen volleyball, had 11 kills and eight aces in a three-set win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Olivia Fauth, Stevenson volleyball, had 11 kills and four blocks in a three-set win over Washougal.
  • Gianni-Mei Alejo-Pagaduan, Evergreen girls soccer, scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Toledo.
  • Kaili Humphrey and Brooke Roberts, Hockinson girls soccer, each scored two goals in an 8-0 win over Heritage.
  • Ava Krieger, Union girls soccer, scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Prairie.
  • Brody Newcombe, Ridgefield boys golf, shot a 4-over par 41 for the low round at Tri-Mountain as the Spudders beat Woodland 177-188.
  • Broden Toney, Mark Morris boys golf, shot even-par 35 at Mint Valley in a 151-159 win over Washougal.
  • Grady Millar, Spencer Moody and Braden Kendrick, Mountain View boys golf, each shot even-par 36 at Camas Meadows in a 145-158 win over Union.
  • Enzo Matheny, Skyview boys golf, shot 3-over par 40 at Tri-Mountain for the low round in a 170-195 win over Prairie.
